Although C#4 and F#5 are note-additions, and the F#5 in measure 38 is raised 3 semitones, the tendency in this period is to have note-diminution. The rhythmic density is mainly lowered in this period, although rhythmic diminution appears in measures 40-41. Dynamics evolve in decrescendo from forte to pianissimo in the last four measures of the period. Additionally, in these last four measures accents are slowly being removed. The phrasing starts with full pedal indications and transforms via 1/2 pedal into staccato playing in the last three measures of the period. The melodic curve evolves from the fluent motif 1 to large interval double stops at the end of the period.
The decreased pedaling technique is recommended in bars 43 through 47, by using one full pedal per beat in the first measure of this passage and becoming completely staccato by measure 47. In fact, the 1/2 pedal remark in bar 41 before this passage remains one full pedal per beat as in measure 40.
