The note operations in this period are exclusively note-diminutions. Additionally, the rhythmic density is exclusively lowered through this period resulting in a rhythmic augmentation from 32nd triplets in motif 2 to dotted 16th-regular 16th in measures 67 until the end of the period. In general, dynamics evolve in decrescendo from forte to ppp in the last measures of the period. In measure 63, some notes are subject to a decrescendo, while the notes that will remain from measure 67 onward remain forte. Accents are added from bar 60 onward to highlight the rhythmic structure. These accents are removed after bar 71. The phrasing remains 1/2 pedal throughout the whole period. The melodic curve evolves from the quite fluent motif 2 over more capricious curves to a two-note melodic curve at the end of the period.
To obtain the transition in bars 64 to 77, closer attention to the pedaling technique will help to find other solutions besides those marked in the score. In fact, this passage is a transition from quasi “secco” playing to full pedal, with very small pedal action on the accents in bars 64-65, gradually increasing the pedal over the following bars and arriving at full pedal in bar 77. Like this, the remark “abandonnez les accents peu à peu” will be executed naturally and the transition will sound very organic. Additionally, the remark “1/2 pedal” in bar 71 seems extraneous because 1/2 pedal is already being used before this bar.
