Loop C - loop 5 - regressive period

Although there is one note-addition of F5, this period tends mainly toward note-diminution. In the first half of the period, the rhythmic augmentation is mainly due to the note-diminutions. In the second half, the rhythm is augmented from 16th triplets to 16ths. In the repeated measure 175, the rhythm is transformed from 16ths to eighths by gradually diminishing the interlaced notes. In general, dynamics evolve in decrescendo from forte in bar 168 to piano in bar 175. The accents in bar 175 help to bring out the resulting notes in bar 176. The phrasing remains 1/2 pedal throughout the period, with staccato additions at the end. The melodic curve evolves from a quite fluent motif 5 to a very fluent and quite rigidly repeated pattern at the end of the period. The tempo is raised from 50 to 60 bpm in bar 175. In reality, this accelerando is somewhat unnecessary, because the tempo will most likely already be raised beforehand by the difficulty of the score.
