Dynamics evolve in decrescendo from fortissimo in bar 221 to piano in bar 227. In the following two measures 227-228, the first two repetitions build up in a crescendo, and the last two move down again in a decrescendo. Accents are added to enhance the structure and direction of this regressive period. Although the period is regressive, the pedaling also builds up from 1/2 to full pedal towards the end of the period. The melodic curve does not evolve much.
